Funding Areas
The RealNetworks Foundation makes competitive grants in two broad categories: Community Enhancement Grants and Priority Sector Grants
In the Spring Cycle, the Foundation only accepts applications for Community Enhancement Grants. In the Fall Cycle, the Foundation accepts both Community Enhancement and Priority Sector grant applications.
Community Enhancement Grants
These grants are geographically-focused on communities where RealNetworks employees live and work. In 2010, grants in this category will be focused on the following U.S. communities:
Seattle, WA (Puget Sound Region) |
San Francisco, CA (Bay Area) |
Reston, VA (Metro D.C.) |
New York, NY |
Community Enhancement grants are made in a variety of sectors (human services, education, arts & culture etc.) However, during this difficult economic time, organizations that deliver (and advocate on behalf of) basic human services including those that promote job creation and economic development will be given priority.
Typically, Community Enhancement Grants will range from $1,000 to $10,000.
Priority Sector Grants
These grants are made to organizations in two specific sectors and are not geographically restricted.
In 2009-2011 the Foundation is focusing its sector-specific grant making on:
Climate & the Environment programs focused on addressing climate change, energy efficiency, the creation of green jobs etc. |
Freedom of Expression & Independent Media programs that defend civil liberties and human rights, especially free speech and freedom of the press, or that promote diverse and independent media. |
